Feastables Review: Is Mr. Beast's Chocolate Healthy?

Feastables Review: Is Mr. Beast's Chocolate Healthy?

| |

Feastables is a new chocolate bar brand that’s available both at Walmart and online. It’s run by Mr. Beast, the most popular YouTuber in the world, and the brand claims to have a “simple and delicious” formula with only five ingredients.

But is Feastables healthier than regular chocolate bars? Does it have any questionable additive ingredients? How does it taste? And which retailer sells Feastables for the best price?

In this article we’ll answer all of these questions and more, as we analyze the ingredients in Feastables chocolate based on research studies to give our take on whether or not the brand is healthier than traditional chocolate bars like Snickers.

We'll share our opinion on the taste after trying Feastables ourselves, and provide a cost comparison to show which retailer sells Feastables for the best price.

Ingredient Analysis

Feastables ingredients

The ingredients in the Milk Chocolate version of Feastables are shown above.

Cane sugar is unsurprisingly the first ingredient, and there are 22 grams (g) of added sugar per bar.

The remaining ingredients are healthy whole food ingredients like organic milk and organic vanilla powder.

The Feastables website notes that the milk used in the bars is sourced from grass-fed animals, which is a healthier option than milk from conventionally-raised animals.

A medical review found that grass-fed milk is higher than conventionally-raised milk in nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids that benefit human health.

It’s great in our opinion that Feastables is free of questionable additives like preservatives or artificial flavoring. To provide a comparative example, let’s review the ingredients in Snickers chocolate below:

Snickers ingredients

The first thing to note is that Snickers contains 26 g of added sugar, or 5 g more than Feastables. We recommend minimizing refined sugar intake as much as possible, so this is a point for Feastables.

There is no mention of whether the milk used in Snickers is sourced from grass-fed animals, so we’ll assume it’s sourced from conventionally-raised animals. Another point for Feastables.

Corn syrup is a refined sweetener that we recommend avoiding, for reasons described in our Fiber One reviews article.

Artificial flavor is also included, and medical research suggests some toxicity concerns with artificial flavoring ingredients.

Overall, we consider Feastables to be a healthier option than most commercial chocolates that we reviewed while researching this article.

Our only complaint is that the brand doesn’t publish the cocoa content, because this is a good measure of the healthiness of a chocolate bar.

Most dark chocolates have a listed cocoa percentage (“dark chocolate 70%” means that 70% of the bar is made from cocoa). The higher the cocoa content, generally the healthier the chocolate bar, because this means there is less added sugar and more phytonutrients from cocoa.

We Tried Feastables – Our Take

Feastables UGC

As the author of this article, I wanted to try Feastables myself to share my thoughts on its taste and the overall product experience.

I went to a local Walmart and purchased the milk chocolate version.

This was the only milk chocolate bar available at my local Walmart with milk sourced from grass-fed cows, so the product stands out on that point alone.

The taste was sweet (unsurprisngly) but not too sweet, with a hint of vanilla.

I don't even have a sweet tooth and rarely purchase chocolate for myself, but this is one of the best milk chocolate bars I've had in recent memory.

I would definitely purchase this product over commercial alternatives, because I like the relatively clean ingredient list and lack of unhealthy additives like artificial flavors.

I'd rate this product a 9/10 and would definitely recommend it to consumers looking for a tasty and somewhat healthy milk chocolate brand.

This is a more minor consideration but I also would rather give my money to Mr. Beast than Hershey's, as I feel like he's somewhat more likely to do something beneficial with it.

Where to Get the Best Price

Feastables is sold at a variety of online retailers. Here's a price breakdown for a one-time purchase of a 10-pack:

Walmart: $49.90 (third-party seller, link)

Brand website: $29.99 (plus $4.99 shipping, link)

Amazon: $29.99 (free shipping, link to official Amazon listing)

Amazon currently has the best price by 14% when factoring in shipping fees, but only the Quinoa Crunch is available on Amazon as a 10-pack.

The brand's website currently has all of the flavors available, and is a better option for consumers who want to try other flavors.

Is Feastables Trustworthy?

A YouTube channel called "Future Proof" has a video on whether or not Feastables is trustworthy that has over 134,000 views at the time of updating this article:

Our Clean Chocolate Pick

We recommend Lindt Excellence Dark Chocolate as our top healthy chocolate pick because it’s a dark chocolate (70%) with only 12 grams of sugar per serving, or around half of the amount in Feastables.

Like Feastables, this product is free of questionable additives and is flavored with natural ingredients like bourbon vanilla beans. We consider dark chocolate to be healthier than milk chocolate due to the lower sugar content, so we hope that Feastables launches a dark chocolate option soon. If they do, we'll consider switching our recommendation.

Interested consumers can check our Lindt Excellence Dark Chocolate at this link.

For chocolate lovers who are focused entirely on health and care less about taste, Baker’s Unsweetened Chocolate is the healthiest option because it contains no added sugar at all. The only ingredient is 100% cacao beans. This makes it quite bitter but it pairs well with fruit.

Real Customers Review Feastables

Amazon is a better resource for honest customer reviews than a brand's website in our opinion.

Quinoa Crunch is the most-reviewed Feastables product on Amazon at the time of updating this article, with over 500 total reviews and an average review rating of 3.9 out of 5 stars.

The top positive review from a verified purchaser comes from a user named "JodyLeigh" who gives the product a 4/5 star rating and likes its taste:

"I'm a big Mr. Beast fan so I had to try these! I love the taste but thought they are a little overpriced."

The top negative review from a verified purchaser is written by a user named "Hannah" who suggests the color was "off":

"GROSs. Overpriced grey chocolate. Barf!!!!"

Feastables currently has an average review rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars on Facebook.

Pros and Cons of Feastables

Here are the pros and cons of Feastables in our opinion:

Pros:

  • Healthier than regular chocolate
  • Contains grass-fed milk
  • Tastes great
  • No artificial flavors

Cons:

  • Relatively high sugar dose
  • Relatively expensive
  • Mostly positive online customer reviews
Stay up-to-date on our research reviews

Conclusion

We consider Mr. Beast’s chocolate brand to be one of the healthier milk chocolate options on the market.

It’s great that Feastables chocolate bars have no unhealthy additives like artificial flavor and high fructose corn syrup that so many commercial chocolate bars have.

Feastables also uses grass-fed milk which is more nutritionally rich than milk sourced from conventionally-raised animals.

Most of the online customer reviews that we came across while researching this article were favorable, and we tried the chocolate ourselves and really enjoyed the taste and overall product experience.

We hope that Feastables launches a dark chocolate product soon, as dark chocolate is arguably healthier than milk chocolate due to the higher cocoa content and lower refined sugar.

Amazon currently has as better price on the Quinoa Crunch version of Feastables, but the brand's website has more offerings and better prices on the other versions.
