Olly Metabolism Gummies Review: Gummies for Weight Loss?

| |
| |

Metabolism Gummies is a weight loss supplement sold by Olly. The gummies contain apple cider vinegar (ACV), and the brand claims that this supplement supports metabolism and weight loss.

But do Metabolism Gummies contain a research-backed dose of ACV for weight loss? Do they contain other effective active ingredients? What about questionable additive ingredients? And how do real users rate and describe the effects of Olly Metabolism Gummies?

In this article we’ll answer all of these questions and more, as we analyze the ingredients in Olly Metabolism Gummies based on medical studies, to give our take on whether or not they’re likely to be effective for weight loss.

We’ll feature unsponsored user reviews of the brand, and provide a cost comparison to show which retailer sells Olly Metabolism Gummies for the best price.

Ingredient Analysis

Olly Metabolism Gummies active ingredients

The active ingredients in Olly Metabolism Gummies are shown above.

Vitamin B12 is the first-listed active ingredient, and we’re unsure why it would be included in a weight loss formulation.

While vitamin B12 deficiency is clinically shown to be associated with obesity, we haven’t come across any research studies suggesting that vitamin B12 supplementation causes weight loss in patients with normal vitamin B12 levels, nor does Olly cite any on their product page.

Chromium is a mineral that’s been shown in research studies to cause weight loss in overweight and obese individuals, as we documented in our review of another weight loss supplement called OxyShred.

Apple cider vinegar is an effective weight loss ingredient, but may be underdosed in Olly Metabolism Gummies.

A medical review on ACV for weight loss found the compound to be effective, but the lowest dose used was 750 milligrams (mg) daily of acetic acid, which is just one active compound in ACV.

The entire ACV dose in Olly Metabolism Gummies is only 300 mg, and we can’t find any clinical evidence that this dose is effective for weight loss, nor does the brand cite any on their product page.

The inactive ingredients in these gummies are shown below:

Olly Metabolism Gummies inactive ingredients

Added sugar is included at a dose of 3 grams (g), which is a strange choice for a weight loss formulation in our opinion, given that diets high in added sugar promote the development of obesity, according to a 2019 medical review.

Citric acid is a preservative and flavor enhancer shown to cause whole-body inflammatory reactions in some individuals according to a medical review published in the Toxicology Reports journal.

Natural flavors is a broad categorical descriptor, and as we discussed in our TrimFit reviews article on another weight loss supplement containing this ingredient, it’s challenging to assess the safety of these flavoring additives without the specific chemical compounds used being listed.

Overall, we’re unconvinced of the potential efficacy of Olly Metabolism Gummies for weight loss. Chromium may be effectively dosed, but we haven’t come across any convincing clinical evidence for the other two active ingredients at their stated doses.

We don’t currently recommend this supplement due to the inclusion of refined sugar, citric acid and natural flavors.

Real Customers Review Olly

Amazon is a better resource for honest customer reviews than a brand's website in our opinion.

Olly Metabolism Gummies have been reviewed over 1,700 times on Amazon, with an average review rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars at the time of publishing this article.

The top positive review from a verified purchaser comes from a user named "Ann" who gives the product a 5/5 rating and claims it's both tasty and effective:

"A clean, dry fork used to remove a chewable from the container, will keep them fresh. They taste good and there is NO scent. A lot of effort went into creating a tasty and effective product. Highly recommend."

The top negative review from a verified purchaser is written by a user named "Michelle Renee Mercure" who claims the supplement arrived congealed:

"The package was actually delivered a day early. But the "cooling pack" kept in the bag was so hot and all of the gummies have melted into one giant maroon blob in the container. There is literally nothing I can do with this. Carve out a piece each day? What a waste of $20!!"

Conclusion

Olly Metabolism Gummies are underwhelming from a formulation perspective in our opinion.

They contain one mineral that's clinically shown to cause weight loss, but this is the only active ingredient that we think is potentially effective at its stated dose.

There is 10 times as much added sugar as apple cider vinegar in Olly's gummies.

We don't currently recommend Olly Metabolism Gummies due to the inclusion of flavoring additives, citric acid and refined sugar.

The ACV dose in this supplement is significantly lower than the dose we've seen shown to be effective for weight loss in clinical trials.

For consumers interested in purchasing this product, Amazon currently has the best price by a significant margin.
