Viori is a shampoo and conditioner bar brand. The company claims their product line is "Inspired by the Ancient Haircare Rituals of the Red Yao Tribe."
But does Viori Shampoo contain research-backed ingredients for hair health and appearance? Does it contain any unhealthy ingredients? And is Viori Shampoo better or worse than popular shampoo bars like Humby Organics?
In this article we'll answer all of these questions and more, as we analyze the ingredients in Viori shampoo to give our take on whether or not it's likely to be effective for improving hair quality, and whether or not it's healthy.
We'll also compare Viori Shampoo to other popular shampoo bars to pick our winners (and losers).
Key takeaways:
- Contains many research-backed ingredients for hair quality
- Contains fragrance
- We do not currently recommend Viori Shampoo
Ingredient Analysis
The ingredients in Viori Limited Heirloom Tea shampoo bar are shown below:

A number of the active ingredients have research backing their effects on hair health.
Oryza sativa (rice) bran oil was found in a medical review published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology to cause hair growth when applied topically, although rice bran extracts were used.
Brassica oleracea extract is also clinically shown to have hair-growth effects.
Camellia sinensis has been shown in research studies to extend the hair growth phase, as we documented in our Plantur 39 review article.
Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed wax can support a clean hair and scalp, as documented in this 2021 medical review:
"Its properties as a liquid wax allow the dissolution of sebum deposits within hair follicles due to an ability to penetrate the follicles and remove the comedome, thus clearing the skin."
There is only one ingredient in this shampoo bar that we consider potentially questionable from a health perspective.
Fragrance is included, and a 2016 medical review concluded that fragranced consumer products can pose “serious risks” to human health.
Viori's website has a Clean Fragrances Declaration, which declares the fragrance to meet the standards of the EU, among other things.
While this is better than nothing, it still provides no specific details about which chemical compounds are used for the fragrance of the shampoo bar. Thus, we recommend avoiding it.
Overall, we consider Viori shampoo to be likely to support hair growth and clean hair, however, we don't currently recommend it due to the inclusion of fragrance.
Viori Shampoo vs. Popular Shampoo Bars
Here's how Viori Shampoo compares to other popular shampoo bars in terms of potential effectiveness and healthiness, in our opinion:
Humby Organics
Contains olive oil, which is clinically shown to support hair growth.
However, Viori Shampoo has more active ingredients we could find research backing for, and both shampoo bars contain fragrance.
Winner: Viori Shampoo
Kitsch
This brand has a very similar formulation to Viori Shampoo bar: effective, natural, active ingredients, and fragrance.
The (very minor) difference that gives Kitsch the edge from a health perspective, is that the brand's fragrances meet EU standards, as we documented in our Kitsch shampoo bar reviews article.
The EU has very strict consumer health standards, so this is better than generic fragrance with no such declaration.
Winner: Kitsch
Mane Root Activator
Contains a synthetic preservative which is clinically shown to have hormone-disrupting effects.
We consider this ingredient to be worse for health than fragrance.
Winner: Viori Shampoo
Our Clean Hair Care Picks

Acure Vivacious Volume Shampoo is our top shampoo pick.
It contains argan oil which is clinically shown to help protect hair from damage.
Ritual HyaCera is our top hair growth supplement.
This supplement contains wheat oil extract, and a 2024 clinical trial reported that a wheat lipid complex had "a reducing effect on hair shedding and a stimulating effect on hair reappearance and growth."
Both of the products recommended in this section are free of ingredients we consider to be unhealthy.
