Nuts.com is one of the largest internet retailers of bulk foods. They started selling nuts exclusively, and today sell a wide variety of food products.

In this article we’ll review Nuts.com to determine if it really is the best value for buying nuts and seeds online, comparing them to Thrive Market which we previously reviewed.

We choose to use Thrive Market prices as the benchmark because we found their bulk nuts and seeds prices to be better than the leading options on Amazon. We have no affiliation with either company, and we make no money if you buy their products.

Nuts Review

Nuts are unsurprisingly the biggest sellers on Nuts.com, and they have a wide variety of them. We know from medical research that consumption of nuts is associated with a wide range of health benefits, so if consumers can get them at a great price it’s a win-win! The price comparison is below, and prices are from the date our researching this article:

Almonds, 1 pound (lb)

  • Thrive (organic): $14.99
  • Nuts.com (organic): $15.99 (7% more expensive)
  • Nuts.com (conventional): $9.99 (33% cheaper)

Cashews, 1 lb

  • Thrive (organic): $11.49
  • Nuts.com (organic): $14.99 (31% more expensive)
  • Nuts.com (conventional): $13.99 (22% more expensive)

Dry Roasted Peanuts, 1 lb

  • Thrive (organic): $6.99
  • Nuts.com (organic): $7.99 (14% more expensive)
  • Nuts.com (conventional): $4.99 (29% cheaper)

Pecans, 1 lb

  • Thrive (organic): $17.99
  • Nuts.com (organic): $21.99 (22% more expensive)
  • Nuts.com (conventional): $14.99 (17% cheaper)

Walnuts, 1 lb

  • Thrive (organic): $17.99
  • Nuts.com (organic): $16.99 (6% cheaper)
  • Nuts.com (conventional): $9.99 (44% cheaper)

Roasted Pistachios With Shell, 1 lb

  • Thrive (organic): $14.99
  • Nuts.com (organic): $16.99 (13% more expensive)
  • Nuts.com (conventional): $12.99 (13% cheaper)

Macadamia Nuts, 8 ounces (oz)

  • Thrive (organic): $11.49
  • Nuts.com (organic): $15.99 (39% more expensive)

Thrive Market almost exclusively carries organic nuts, and has no conventional options.

It’s on average 17% more expensive to buy the same organic nuts on Nuts.com compared to Thrive Market, but it’s 19% cheaper to buy conventional nuts on Nuts.com compared to organic nuts on Thrive Market.

For consumers who buy organic-only food products, Thrive Market is the better option, but we don’t generally recommend organic over conventional produce or food products, as the medical research is lacking. Organic products may slightly decrease pesticide intake, but there isn’t yet convincing evidence.

We don’t believe it’s harmful to consume organic food products, just that the current state of the research doesn’t back the increased price.

Seeds Review

Consuming seeds is a great way to increase nutrients in the diet, as well as healthy omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Both Thrive Market and Nuts.com have a significant amount of seed products for sale. Price comparison is below:

Chia Seeds, 1 lb

  • Thrive (organic): $7.99
  • Nuts.com (organic): $7.99
  • Nuts.com (conventional): $5.99 (25% cheaper)

Flax Seeds, 1 lb

  • Thrive (organic): $3.99
  • Nuts.com (organic): $4.99 (25% more expensive)
  • Nuts.com (conventional): $3.99

Hemp Seeds, 1 lb

  • Thrive (organic): $12.99
  • Nuts.com (organic): $16.99 (31% more expensive)

Poppy Seeds, 1 lb

  • Thrive (organic): $15.95
  • Nuts.com (organic): $8.99 (44% cheaper)
  • Nuts.com (conventional): $5.99 (62% cheaper)

Pumpkin Seeds, 1 lb

  • Thrive (organic): $7.99
  • Nuts.com (organic): $7.99
  • Nuts.com (conventional): $6.99 (13% cheaper)

Sunflower Seeds, 1 lb

  • Thrive (organic): $4.99
  • Nuts.com (organic): $5.99 (20% more expensive)
  • Nuts.com (conventional): $3.99 (20% cheaper)

Overall the organic seeds were 5% more expensive on Nuts.com than Thrive Market, but the conventional seeds were 24% cheaper compared to the organic seeds on Thrive.

Conclusion

Nuts.com has great prices on conventional nuts, and they’re the best online retailer for conventional nuts that we’ve reviewed so far.

For consumers who only eat organic food products, we recommend Thrive Market over Nuts.com due to cheaper prices for the same items.

We generally recommend purchasing conventional food products over organic for consumers on a budget, since the medical research doesn’t yet back any significant health benefits of organic produce.

Buying nuts and seeds in person is often cheaper than online, due to shipping costs and increased overhead, but Nuts.com is a good option to buy a wide variety of healthy nuts at a fair price for consumers who do most of their shopping online.
