Wrinkles Schminkles Review: Can Face Patches Reduce Wrinkles?

Wrinkles Schminkles is a silicone patch brand that's used to reduce the visible appearance of wrinkles. The brand claims to have "Amazing Before and Afters" and to be able to "improve the appearance of unwanted lines and wrinkles in a matter of hours."

But is Wrinkles Schminkles proven to work? Is silicone shown in research studies to reduce the appearance of wrinkles? What was our Product Tester's experience trying it for two weeks? And is Wrinkles Schminkles better or worse than popular facial patches like Frownies?

In this article we'll answer all of these questions and more, as we analyze the clinical studies on Wrinkles Schminkles to give our take on whether or not this product is likely to be effective.

We'll also share our Product Tester's honest experience trying it, feature a video from a dermatologist on wrinkle patches, and compare Wrinkles Schminkles to other popular facial patches/products to pick our winners (and losers).

Key takeaways:

  • We don't find company-funded trials to be useful
  • We cannot identify any independent studies suggesting anti-aging effects
  • We do not currently recommend Wrinkles Schminkles

Is Wrinkles Schminkles Proven to Work?

The Wrinkles Schminkles website suggests that the product is "clinically proven" to work:

Wrinkles Schminkles clinical trial results

However, the Clinical Study page on the brand's website shows that this is referring to a company-funded customer study rather than a clinical trial published in a peer-reviewed medical journal.

This clinical trial found that around 90% of participants experienced reduced wrinkling around the eyes and on the forehead.

However, we recommend that consumers entirely disregard results from company-funded trials that are not published in peer-reviewed medical journals.

The potential for bias is too high in our opinion for the results to have any value to prospective consumers.

Medical journals with a peer review process have a high bar for methodology and study quality, which is why this is the gold standard of product research in our opinion.

We Tested Wrinkles Schminkles

One of our product testers named Hannah Westerman tried Wrinkles Schminkles for two weeks. Here's her experience:

The products were easy to open and use.

I saw the bags under my eyes decrease significantly. It worked best when I used them consecutively. If I just used them one day here and there the effects were minor.

Here's my before image:

And here's my after image:

I did not experience any side effects, and this is a product I would consider purchasing again in the future.

I will say that it’s worth it to buy the cleanser, as these are reusable, and they will get dirty after each use.

Overall, I'd rate Wrinkles Schminkles 8/10.

Does Silicone Reduce Wrinkles?

Wrinkles Schminkles is made with medical-grade silicone.

A clinical trial published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology examined whether topical silicone patches could reduce wrinkles.

The study authors found that silicone patches resulted in a temporary (up to 60 minute) reduction in wrinkles, but no long-term effect was noted.

This suggests that silicone patches may be beneficial before an event or outing for aesthetic improvement, but may be a waste of money for those seeking long-term improvements.

Silicone is also clinically shown to improve the apperance of wrinkles when implanted in the skin, but that's a very different mechanism of action than the topical effect of Wrinkles Schminkles.

Overall, we cannot identify any clinical evidence that topical application of silicone has a long-term anti-aging effect.

Wrinkles Schminkles vs. Popular Facial Products

Here's how Wrinkles Schminkles compares to other popular facial devices/products in terms of potential effectiveness and safety, in our opinion:

DermaWand

This device uses radiofrequency, which is clinically shown to have an anti-aging effect.

The technical specs of DermaWand are unclear to us, but the underlying technology has much more promise, so we give the brand the advantage in terms of potential effectiveness.

Winner: DermaWand

Frownies

This is another popular adhesive pad brand used on the face to prevent wrinkles.

This brand has been clinically shown to be effective (at least short-term), as we documented in our Frownies reviews article.

Our Product Tester also preferred Frownies, so we'll give the brand the (slight) edge in terms of potential efficacy.

Winner: Frownies

Omnilux

Clinically proven to reduce wrinkles and promote skin rejuvenation.

This brand utilizes red light therapy, which is well-established in clinical literature to enhance skin quality.

Winner: Omnilux

Our Clean Skincare Pick

MindBodyGreen Best Skin+ is our top anti-aging skin supplement.

It contains orange extract which is clinically shown to increase skin moisturization, skin elasticity and skin radiance.

This supplement also contains astaxanthin which is clinically shown to cause "wrinkle formation reduction."

This supplement is free of ingredients that we consider to be unhealthy.

Conclusion

Wrinkles Schminkles may reduce the appearance of wrinkles for short periods of time (up to 60 minutes based on research we identified), but we can't find any convincing evidence that this product is likely to be effective for long-term reduction of wrinkles.

The brand funded a clinical trial showing their product to be effective, but the full clinical trial isn't clearly published on the brand's website, and doesn't appear to be published in any peer-reviewed medical journals.

Our Product Tester tried Wrinkles Schminkles for a month, and noted subjective improvements to facial skin quality.

We recommend that consumers disregard any claims of product efficacy based on brand-funded clinical trials that are not published in peer-reviewed journals, due to the potential for bias.

We consider Frownies to be a slightly better facial adhesive pad option than Wrinkles Schminkles, and DermaWand and Omnilux to be significantly superior facial device options.
