Collagen Burn Review: Can Collagen Powder Burn Fat?

Collagen Burn is a dietary supplement manufactured by a brand called Vitauthority. The brand claims that their product can support visibly reduced cellulite, easier weight loss and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

But is collagen actually effective for improving skin quality? Does Collagen Burn contain active ingredients to support weight loss? Does it contain any unhealthy ingredients? And is Collagen Burn better or worse than popular collagen weight loss supplements like Obvi Collagenic Burn?

In this article we'll answer all of these questions and more, as we analyze clinical studies on collagen and skin to determine if the nutrient is effective or not.

We'll also analyze the ingredients in Collagen Burn to give our take on whether or not it's effectively formulated for weight loss, and compare Collagen Burn to other popular collagen-based weight loss supplements to pick our winners (and losers).

Key takeaways:

  • Collagen is clinically shown to improve skin quality
  • Contains some ingredients that may support weight loss
  • We do not currently recommend Collagen Burn due to chromium dose

Does Collagen Actually Improve Skin?

The good news about Collagen Burn is that the brand’s core claims about collagen being effective for skin improvement seem to be accurate based on medical studies.

Collagen is the structural protein in skin, and it’s one of the most well-studied supplements for reducing wrinkles.

As we age, our body’s collagen production slows down, and medical research shows that supplemental collagen can help replenish collagen levels in the body and improve skin.

An extensive medical review published in the International Journal of Dermatology analyzed data from 18 clinical trials on oral collagen supplementation. The researchers concluded that oral collagen supplementation provided significant improvements to skin:

“Based on results, ingestion of hydrolyzed collagen for 90 days is effective in reducing skin aging, as it reduces wrinkles and improves skin elasticity and hydration.”

Another meta-study that we frequently cite on Illuminate Health concluded similarly, and found the effective dosing range of collagen for skin quality to be 2.5 grams (g) to 10 g per day. We typically recommend 10 g since collagen is a safe food product without side effects, and this appears to be the maximally-effective dose.

Overall, we conclude that oral collagen supplementation is likely to improve skin quality and reduce wrinkles.

Ingredient Analysis

Collagen Burn contains a large number of active ingredients, so we'll break our ingredient analysis into sections.

The ingredients in the Multi Collagen Blend are shown below:

Hydrolyzed grass-fed bovine chicken collagen peptides and water-soluble eggshell membrane collagen are two of the different types of collagen in this supplement.

The total dose is 7.8 g per serving, which is within the effective range as documented in the previous section of this article.

The ingredients in the vitamin and mineral blend in Collagen Burn are shown below:

Vitamin C can increase collagen production and decrease elastin loss according to a medical review published in the Nutrients journal.

Chromium is included at a dose of 286% of the Daily Value.

As we referenced in our review of Native Path Collagen, it may be unsafe for consumers with already-normal levels of vitamins and minerals to take supplements with doses of those vitamins and minerals well above the Daily Value range, especially considering the consumer is likely to obtain some of this mineral from other supplements and diet.

The ingredients in the Support Blends in Collagen Burn are shown below:

Collagen Burn Support Blends ingredients list

Metabolism Support Blend is the weight loss blend.

Ashwagandha extract caused weight loss in stressed patients in a 2016 clinical trial found, but the daily dosage was 600 milligrams (mg) while the average ingredient dose in this blend is only 44.25 mg.

Grains of paradise extract is effectively dosed in this formulation.

A 2014 clinical trial found that this ingredient increased energy expenditure and caused fat loss at a 30 mg per day dose, which is lower than the average ingredient dose in the Collagen Burn metabolism blend.

Hyaluronic acid is included in the Cellulite Control Matrix, and was found in a clinical trial published in the Nutrients journal to reduce wrinkles and improve skin elasticity at a dosage of 120 mg per day.

However, the average ingredient dosage in this blend is only 45 mg.

SOD B Dimpless is a patented melon extract that's clinically shown to reduce visible cellulite by over 10% after 56 days of supplementation.

We consider Collagen Burn somewhat likely to cause weight loss given its effective dose of Grains of paradise extract, and likely to cause cellulite reduction.

Overall, we consider Collagen Burn likely to be effective for wrinkle and cellulite reduction, and the inactive ingredients in this formulation should be safe and non-toxic.

We don't currently recommend this supplement due to the inclusion of chromium at a relatively high dose.

Collagen Burn vs. Collagen & Weight Supps

Here's how Collagen Burn compares to other collagen and weight loss supplements in terms of formulation quality, in our opinion:

Obvi Collagenic Burn

Contains a chromium dose twice as high as Collagen Burn, along with another active ingredient which is clinically shown to cause liver damage when taken at high doses.

Obvi Collagenic Burn also contains an inactive ingredient which is banned in the EU for use as a food additive.

We consider Collagen Burn to be the safer choice.

SkinnyFit Super Youth

This supplement contains a research-backed dose of collagen for anti-aging.

It also contains several inactive ingredients we consider to be unhealthy, as we documented in our SkinnyFit Super Youth review article.

However, we consider the potential negative impacts of high chromium use to be greater than the potential negative impacts of these inactive ingredients, so we consider SkinnyFit Super Youth to be the safer choice.

Multi Collagen Advanced Lean

This supplement, sold by Ancient Nutrition, contains a Collagen Complex with a total dose of only 810 mg, which is below the effective range.

However, it contains other research-backed active ingredients, and is free of any unhealthy ingredients.

We give Multi Collagen Advanced Lean the edge from a health perspective.

Conclusion

Vitauthority Collagen Burn has a unique formulation.

Not only does this supplement contain collagen, but it also contains an effective dose of a weight loss ingredient and an effective dose of a cellulite reduction ingredient, suggesting it may serve as a sort of all-in-one cosmetic product.

We don't currently recommend this supplement due to a high dose of chromium, and because we're not sure it makes sense to try and make collagen a weight loss product when it's typically used for skin and joints, but nonetheless this product should perform as advertised from a potential efficacy standpoint.

It's also worth noting that the collagen dose per serving is relatively low, making this supplement somewhat expensive per gram of collagen compared to competitors.

One of the best things about the unflavored version of Collagen Burn is that it's entirely free of inactive ingredients, which makes it healthier than some competitors.

We consider Collagen Burn to be healthier than Obvi Collagenic Burn, but less healthy than SkinnyFit Super Youth and Multi Collagen Advanced Lean.
