Disclaimer: None of the information in this article constitutes medical advice, and is just the opinion of the writer(s). We recommend that patients follow their doctor’s guidance in regards to prescription medication.

The erectile dysfunction (ED) pill market is growing in the United States and Bluechew has become one of the leading brands. They’re the Viagra of this decade. However, many consumers don’t know the difference between the effectiveness of various ED meds.

In this article we’ll analyze the ingredients in Bluechew based on medical research to determine if it's likely to be effective, and compare it with other ED brands like Viagra.

Does Bluechew Work?

Bluechew is just the brand name of a company that sells two generic drugs for ED: sildenafil and tadalafil. These drugs have been on the market for decades and Bluechew isn’t involved in any formulation or scientific research.

Sildenafil is the same active ingredient as in Viagra, and is proven to be effective based on medical research. It’s a very well-studied drug, and quite safe relative to many pharmaceutical treatments.

The effective dose of sildenafil is 50 milligrams (mg), as reported in the research review linked above, so we find it strange that Bluechew sells the pills in dosages of 30 mg and 40 mg. This suggests inexperienced formulators.

Some patients are recommended to take lower doses, such as the elderly, but the standard dose is well-established at 50 mg.

Bluechew should still work, since it’s still shown to be effective on average even at 25 mg, but we don’t believe their sildenafil products are well-formulated and wouldn’t recommend them for this reason.

Tadalafil is the same active ingredient as in Cialis, and is well-established to be effective in medical studies for ED.

The key difference between the two medications is that tadalafil is longer-acting. Patients generally take tadalafil daily, or if they use sildenafil they take it about an hour prior to sex.

Bluechew offers strange and unscientific doses of tadalafil, similar to that of sildenafil. They sell the drug at doses of 6 mg and 9 mg, while nearly all of the medical research is at doses of 2.5, 5 or 10 mg.

The products sold by Bluechew still fall within the effective dosage range, but we find it confusing that they sell the drug at doses which don’t seem to be studied in isolation. This makes it harder for consumers to establish a science-backed schedule of treatment.

We don't recommend Bluechew tadalafil due to these dosage issues.

Bluechew Vs. Viagra and Cialis

As we referenced in the previous section, Bluechew sells both sildenafil and tadalafil at doses which generally aren’t present in medical research.

For this reason, we recommend Viagra for consumers seeking to take sildenafil, and Cialis for consumers seeking to take tadalafil, over Bluechew’s offerings.

Taking the exact same dosage of a drug that was used in medical research generally makes treatment safer and more likely to be effective.

Bluechew Side Effects

Sildenafil tends to have less side effects on average than tadalafil because it’s shorter-acting. The most common side effects reported were headache, flushing and abdomen discomfort, and are caused by sildenafil’s vasodilator (blood vessel widening) effect. These side effects are not caused by toxicity of the drug, and sildenafil doesn’t appear to have any toxicity concerns at the recommended dose.

Tadalafil has more side effects because it’s longer-acting and takes longer for the body to process and excrete. Upwards of 30% of men taking this drug reported side effects lasting longer than 12 hours according to the research study linked in the previous section.

The most common side effects were headache, abdomen discomfort and back pain.

Because it has a more favorable side effect profile and doesn’t need to be taken daily, it may be worth patients considering Bluechew (or these generic drugs alone) to talk with their doctor about starting on sildenafil and only using tadalafil if the first option doesn’t work for them.

Failure to Publish Inactive Ingredients

Bluechew doesn't even publish the inactive ingredients in their chewable tablets, which is unacceptable from a health and safety perspective.

Sildenafil and tadalafil are the active ingredients, but there are other ingredients included in chewable formulations like preservatives, filler ingredients and flavor enhancers which may be harmful or unsafe. Many chewable tablets contain added sugars too. Without Bluechew publishing this information, researchers like us can’t assess the safety of the overall formulation.

We don’t recommend buying products from any consumables brands that don’t respect you enough to publish the ingredients of what they’re selling to you.

Is Bluechew Overpriced?

Because Bluechew’s entire business model is just a rebranding of generic drugs, it’s unsurprising that their costs are quite high.

It’s hard to compare apples-to-apples because Bluechew uses a non-standard dose, but 30 tablets of 50 mg sildenafil can be purchased online at GoodRx for around $30, while 34 capsules of Bluechew 45 mg sildenafil costs $120. That’s 4x the price for a slightly lower dose product.

30 tablets of 5 mg tadalafil can be bought on GoodRx for under $15, while it costs $90 for 28 capsules of 6 mg tadalafil with Bluechew. That makes Bluechew 6x more expensive.

Overall we find that Bluechew costs significant multiples more than other leading online retailers for the exact same active ingredients.

Conclusion

Bluechew is likely to work for ED, because both of the drugs it sells have been studied for decades and are the leading treatments for this condition.

We find generic tadalafil and sildenafil to be more likely to be effective than Bluechew based on their standard dosages matching the scientific research.

We don’t recommend Bluechew because they publish none of their inactive ingredients, sell at significant price multiples for the exact same generic drugs, and use non-standard doses.

We recommend speaking with your doctor about purchasing generic sildenafil or tadalafil if you’re considering Bluechew.
