BHT is a synthetic preservative that was shown to be toxic to animal cells in a clinical trial published in the Environmental Research journal.

Isopropyl myristate was described as a "penetration enhancer" in a 2012 clinical trial, which means it can enhance the absorption of other compounds in a topical product.

This makes us even more concerned about the potential health downsides of this cream.

Overall, we consider RoC Retinol Correxion Line Smoothing Eye Cream likely to have an anti-aging effect given the inclusion of retinol, but we do not currently recommend this cream due to the inactive ingredients discussed above.

Is RoC Proven to Work?

As we discussed in the intro to this article, RoC claims their eye cream is "clinically proven" to work.

However, at the time of publishing this article we can't locate a single full clinical trial cited on RoC's product page or Clinical Results page, and we can't find any clinical trials on RoC products in peer-reviewed journals.

As we've stated in many cosmetic reviews, we recommend that consumers entirely disregard clinical claims of efficacy if the brand making them is unwilling to link to the full study.

Manufacturer-funded, unpublished clinical trials are also subject to greater potential bias in our opinion than clinical trials published in peer-reviewed journals.

When we link to clinical studies on Illuminate Health, we typically link to studies published in peer-reviewed journals, as this is considered the gold standard for product research.

We urge RoC to publish or cite at least one full clinical trial on the page of their website titled "100% Clinically Proven," because there are no such citations at the time of publishing this article.

It's also notable that the skin around the eyes is some of the thinnest skin on the body, so the risk of absorption of unhealthy additives may be greater.
