Hem Healer Review: Symptom Relief in a Pill?

Hem Healer Review: Symptom Relief in a Pill?

Read our Editorial Guidelines to learn more about what makes our site the premier resource for online health information.

Hem Healer is an oral supplement used to treat hemorrhoids. The brand claims that their supplement shrinks hemorrhoids and soothes itching and burning.

But does Hem Healer contain ingredients proven to have these effects in medical studies, or are these just marketing claims? Does the supplement contain any unhealthy additive ingredients? Do oral supplements for hemorrhoids even work? And how do real users rate and describe the effects of Hem Healer?

In this article we’ll answer all of these questions and more as we analyze the ingredients in Hem Healer based on medical studies to give our take on whether the supplement is likely to be effective, or if it’s a waste of money.

We’ll discuss whether oral supplements make sense for hemorrhoids, what some research-backed natural treatments for hemorrhoids are, and feature real user reviews of this brand.

Ingredient Analysis

Hem Healer active ingredients

Hem Healer has three active ingredients, as shown above: diosmin, hesperidin, and horse chestnut extract.

Diosmin is a chemical compound derived from citrus fruits, and it has been studied for the treatment of hemorrhoids.

A clinical trial published in the Clinical Therapeutics journal found that diosmin reduced hemorrhoidal pain by 79% and hemorrhoidal bleeding by 67%, however the dose used was 900 milligrams (mg) per day, or twice the per-serving dose that exists in Hem Healer.

A 2015 clinical trial found that diosmin and hesperidin (another ingredient in Hem Healer) reduced pain associated with hemorrhoids.

Hesperidin is another flavonoid compound derived from citrus fruits.

While we can’t find any clinical trials showing this compound to be effective in isolation, a 1997 clinical trial reported that hesperidin combined with diosmin was “safe, acceptable, and effective in the treatment of hemorrhoids of pregnancy.”

Horse chestnut extract was described as potentially effective for the treatment of hemorrhoids in a medical review published in the Alternative Medicine Review journal.

The inactive ingredients in Hem Healer are shown below:

Hem Healer inactive ingredients

These ingredients are likely safe and non-toxic.

Overall, we consider Hem Healer potentially effective for the treatment of hemorrhoids. All three of its active ingredients have research backing, although we can’t identify any clinical trials proving these ingredients to be effective at the dose in this supplement.

But do hemorrhoid supplements even work? We’ll discuss that question in the next section.

Do Hemorrhoid Supplements Even Work?

A YouTube creator named “Dad Reviews with @Lanevids” discussed his experience using various at-home hemorrhoids treatments:

An interview with a doctor on the Rachel Ray Show is under three minutes long and discusses several potential at-home remedies for relieving hemorrhoids for good:

Will Hem Healer Cause Side Effects?

Hem Healer doesn't appear to have been studied in any clinical trials, which makes it challenging to determine whether or not the supplement is likely to cause side effects. However, we can make an educated guess based on its ingredients.

Diosmin was not shown to cause any serious side effects, even at higher doses than in Hem Healer, in a medical review published in the Vascular Health and Risk Management journal.

Hesperidin is described as a “non-toxic antioxidant” in a 2019 medical review.

Horse chestnut seed extract was described as “generally well tolerated” and only likely to cause mild side effects in a 2009 medical review.

As stated in the ingredient analysis section, we consider the inactive ingredients in this supplement to be non-toxic and safe.

Overall, we consider Hem Healer unlikely to cause any serious side effects based on a review of its ingredients. However, we would recommend that patients with pre-existing conditions speak with their doctor prior to taking this supplement.

But how do real users rate and describe the effects of Hem Healer? We’ll discuss in the next section.

Real User Reviews Hem Healer

A TikTok creator named “Mizter Justin Miller” describes his experience taking Hem Healer:

@miztermiller SO many people suffer from hemorrhoids, but it’s such a taboo subject. Obviously I don’t LOVE talking about them either, but hope that Hem Healer can help someone out! #homedecor #interiordesign #diy #supplement #hemhealer #hemorrhoids ♬ original sound - Mizter Justin Miller

Where to Buy Hem Healer for the Best Price

Hem Healer is sold at a variety of online retailers. Here’s a price breakdown for a one-time purchase at the time of publishing this article:

Brand website: $119.99 (link)

Walmart: $49.99 (free shipping, third-party seller, link)

Amazon: $49.99 (free shippinglink to official Amazon listing)

The brand's website currently only sells a 3-pack and disallows single product orders.

The Walmart listing is from a third-party seller and we generally recommend that consumers avoid purchases from unauthorized third-party sellers, which may reduce the risk of receiving counterfeit products.

Real Customers Review Hem Healer

Amazon is a better resource for honest customer reviews than a brand’s website in our opinion.

Hem Healer has been reviewed over 400 times on Amazon, with an average review rating of 3.6 out of 5 stars.

The top positive review from a verified purchaser comes from a user named “Lynn Turner” who gave the product a 5/5 star review and claimed it reduced hemorrhoid size:

“I started taking 3 capsule in the morning and 3 in the evening let me tell you within an hour of taking the HEM HEALER capsule I could feel the hemorrhoid's stinging where they were shrinking I'm telling you within 3days yes I felt back there and could tell they were going down after taking them for a week I have no pain when I go to the restroom to do #2, I usually would never indorse a product like I'm doing this one but people this stuff really works at least it worked on me thank you HEM HEALER.”

The top negative review from a verified purchaser is written by a user named “JNorth” who gave the product a 1/5 star review and claimed it had no effect:

“Just finished my second bottle with zero improvement…I hydrated well, ate clean, took every dose exactly as suggested and made sure nothing I was doing could exasperate the issue in any way.”

Can Fiber Support Hemorrhoid Relief?

Dietary fiber adds bulk to stool (source), which can reduce constipation (source).

Hemorrhoids are more common in low-fiber diets according to a 2019 medical review, and fiber supplementation was shown to have a beneficial effect on hemorrhoids symptoms in a meta-study published in The American Journal of Gastroenterology.

MBG Organic Fiber Potency+ is our top prebiotic fiber pick because it's certified organic, provides 7 g of fiber per serving and costs under $1.85 per serving at the time of updating this article.

MBG Organic Fiber Potency+ contains 100% soluble fiber, which was described as "one of the most important nutrients for the gut microbiota" in a clinical review published in the Molecules journal.

Pros and Cons of Hem Healer

Here are the pros and cons of Hem Healer in our opinion:

Pros:

  • We consider this supplement potentially effective
  • Inactive ingredients are likely safe and non-toxic
  • Unlikely to cause serious side effects

Cons:

  • Doesn’t appear clinically tested

  • Brand website charges for shipping on some orders
Stay up-to-date on our research reviews

Conclusion

Hem Healer is a decently formulated supplement, and for some consumers it may be worth a try.

This supplement contains active ingredients with research backing, so we consider it potentially effective. We don’t outright recommend this supplement yet because we were unable to identify medical studies showing its active ingredients to be effective at the doses in Hem Healer.

The good news is that the inactive ingredients in this supplement are likely safe and non-toxic, and we don’t believe Hem Healer is likely to cause side effects (although we’d prefer if this were confirmed in a clinical trial).

Amazon currently has the best price on single orders of Hem Healer when factoring in shipping fees.

Amazon customer reviews for this supplement are unimpressive, but it’s also a relatively small sample size.
