RNourishVita is a dietary supplement brand that sells products for hair. The brand claims that their vitamins “are the most effective way of taking the vitamins your hair, skin and nails need,” and that “they also boost their health and growth.”
But do NourishVita’s supplements contain ingredients proven to cause hair growth in medical studies, or are these just marketing claims? Do they contain any unhealthy additive ingredients? Is it even possible for over-the-counter (OTC) pills to cause hair growth? And how do real users rate and describe the effects of NourishVita supplements?
In this article we’ll answer all of these questions and more as we review every ingredient in NourishVita pills and NourishVita gummies based on clinical research to give our take on whether the supplements are likely to be effective or not.
We’ll also compare NourishVita to a popular hair supplement called Nutrafol, and share real, unsponsored user reviews of NourishVita.
NourishVita Pills Review
NourishVita sells a Hair, Lash & Brow Growth Vitamin Pills product that’s arguably the brand’s most popular supplement. Its ingredients are shown above.
The majority of ingredients in this supplement are a blend of vitamins and minerals such as vitamin D3 and zinc. While vitamin and mineral intake is important for hair growth and hair quality, we haven’t come across any medical studies suggesting that taking supplemental vitamins or minerals is beneficial for hair unless you have a deficiency in those vitamins or minerals.
As we documented in our Hair La Vie reviews article, we can’t even find any medical studies suggesting that biotin (which is included in nearly all hair supplements) significantly improves hair outside of those with a biotin deficiency.
L-lysine hydrochloride, l-cysteine and l-proline are all amino acids. A medical review published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science found that l-lysine supplementation may prevent hair shedding but there is no reference to what is an effective dose. The dose in NourishVita of 75 milligrams (mg) is relatively low.
We can’t identify any clinical evidence that citrus bioflavonoids or horsetail extract are effective for hair growth at the respective doses in this supplement.
Overall we are highly unimpressed by the Hair, Lash & Brow Growth Vitamin Pills sold by NourishVita. There are no active ingredients in this formulation we consider to be significantly effective for hair growth at their included doses. At least the inactive ingredients are safe and non-toxic, but we consider this supplement to be a waste of money.
But is NourishVita’s gummy supplement better? We’ll analyze in the next section.
NourishVita Gummies Review
The ingredients in NourishVita Hair, Lash & Brow Vitamin Gummies are shown above.
The only active ingredients in this formulation are vitamins and minerals, making this an overpriced multivitamin in our opinion. Our comments from the previous section on vitamins and minerals hold here: we haven’t come across any evidence of their efficacy in promoting hair growth outside of vitamin or mineral deficiency.
As shown above, NourishVita also fails to publish the Servings Per Container, which is a violation of FDA dietary supplement labeling guidelines.
These gummies contain three questionable additive ingredients that health-conscious consumers may wish to avoid.
Added sugar intake in excess is associated with a host of negative health outcomes, including diabetes and cardiovascular disease, according to a 2019 medical review. Many Americans already consume too much added sugar in their diet, so it seems logical to avoid it in supplements.
Citric acid is a preservative and flavor enhancer. As we documented in our Hairtamin reviews article, this ingredient has been clinically shown to cause whole-body inflammation in a small subset of individuals.
Natural flavors is a broad categorical descriptor that fails to describe the specific flavoring agents used, and a medical review published in the Environmental Health Perspectives journal documented toxicity concerns regarding some natural flavoring agents and their metabolites.
We do not consider NourishVita Gummies likely to be effective for hair growth as we are unable to identify any active ingredients we consider effective. This supplement contains three questionable additive ingredients which makes it a worse option than NourishVita pills in our opinion.
NourishVita vs. Nutrafol
Nutrafol is one of the most popular hair growth supplements on the market, so consumers are often curious about how it compares to NourishVita.
As we documented in our Nutrafol reviews article, Nutrafol has actually been proven in clinical research to be effective for promoting hair growth in both men and women. The results were more impressive for women in our opinion (10% higher hair count after six months of supplementation).
We consider Nutrafol to be a significantly better option than NourishVita because it’s proven to work in legitimate clinical research published in peer-reviewed medical journals. This is the gold standard for product research.
NourishVita does not appear to have been tested in any clinical trials, and its formulations are inferior to Nutrafol’s formulations in our opinion.
